Articling at Smockum Zarnett LLP

The articling students at Smockum Zarnett LLP perform an important role within the firm. Students work directly with associates and partners in all aspects of the litigation process. Students can expect to accompany the firm's lawyers on examinations for discovery, mediations and trials.

The student program can be divided into three main areas: motions, research and carriage of Small Claims Court files. Articling students will have the opportunity to draft and argue a variety of motions and in the process, gain valuable courtroom experience. Students will have an opportunity to conduct research into many different areas of insurance law and general civil litigation issues. Finally, students have carriage of their own Small Claims Court files to grow and develop their file management skills while enjoying direct interaction with clients and opposing counsel.

In years past, we have enjoyed an excellent retention of most, if not all of our articling students. Smockum Zarnett LLP prefers to expand and grow as a firm of skilled litigators by "growing from within."

If you are interested in civil litigation, Smockum Zarnett LLP offers an excellent opportunity to build your advocacy skills in a collegial and supportive work environment. The firm typically hires two articling students. Please submit your resume to Carole Jenkins at
